hello. I have a cichlid and he is not doing well at all. his color has turned very dark and he has this white stuff that seems to be around his gill area. He did have an interest to eat but when he ate it seemed like it was painful for him or something cus he kind of twitched and stopped eating. I have been treating his tank with General cure anti-parasitic fish medication that has metronidazole in it. he seems to have gotten worse since last night. I did a water change two days ago and added the medication. I then added more medication and will do another water change tommorow. Hopefully it's not too late for this little guy. thanks!

He is a chocolate cichlid
I got him from your store about four years ago
hes is in a 35 gallon tank with a cat fish
the cat fish is completley fine.
he is about 5-6 inches.
if anything he would have beaten up the cat fish
I don't believe he has been poisoned or anything.
I did go on vacation and someone came to put his food in his tank.
He is fed a diet mainly of Nutrafin Spirulina flake food.
I also give him frozen blood worms once in a while.
his fins seem clamped. Tho sometimes they go back to normal.
here's some photos.

as far as the multiple post go
Ruthe tells me we need to upgrade the version, but she wants to wait for more bugs to pass...
so just double check the forum before re-posting
Thanks!

could be over feeding wrecked water quality
try doing a large water change and gravel cleaning

try also adding some salt after the water change
aprox 1 TEAspoon per gallon

here's some photos.
I can't see much in the photos...
double check heater and thermometer
chocolate cichlids like to be 80 degrees F.

poor little guy isnt doing to well. Thanks for all your help though! I had my mom take a look at him , and she seems to think he has a bad case of ick. I got life guard all in one treatment though he seemed to get better , but he's gone down hill. He seems very weak now and even the flow of the water turns him upside down. I did add salt to the water and as I said before he looked as if he may pull threw , the white stuff started disapearing.
After having him for four years I've gotten kinda attached to the little guy. Maybe he will pull threw who know's. Thanks for all your help!
