Our platy's tail fin looks like it has a milky color now instead of the normal black. It's also a bit clenched. Anyone have any ideas what this might be?

Been googling it but not finding any possibles yet.

use your regular dechlorinator

add 2 teaspoons of salt per 1 gallon of total tank gallons

I just want to make sure I have this correct, its a 16 gallon tank so thats 32 teaspoons of salt? that seems like a lot so I want to make sure so I don't hurt anything. The shrimp is an Amano.

ok sorry about the multiple posts, one more concern we have 2 plecos in the tank and we want to make sure the salt won't bother them. I've seen a couple things that they don't like salt.

no freshwater animal
I've ever used salt on
has ever had any problem with it

would also be good to
run tests on both your tapwater and your tank water

by the way,
don't use salt with live plants

ideal conditions for platys are:
pH 7.2 - 8.2
temp 76 - 80 F.
zero ammonia of course
zero nitrIte
low nitrAte
varied foods including flake with spirulina
