My tropheus have black spots on their sides. It doesn't seem to be a fatal condition or anything, but I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to the cause.

I was reading through various forums that it might be as a result of too much spirulina in their diet, but that seems odd to me because I only feed them spirulina at night. They get NLS in the morning.

I did experiment with cutting back on their "greens" and didn't see a drop in black spots. Could it be a water quality/condition issue? Could it be a function of being a juvi?

What is NLS? New Life Spectrum? Shouldn't especially be a problem...

Most likely... and it could be a hundred other things...
there is a harmless parasite
I call it BLACK ICK...it's actually a bird parasite...
you can treat it with copper...but it should go away by itself...
in a couple or 3 months..
